SBD
SBD, it's pretty simple. Squat. Bench. Deadlift. In that order. Three attempts at each. Every lifter hoping to go 9 for 9 and set new PR's (personal records). You spend months pouring your blood, sweat and tears out in the gym; very literally. One day at a time you get stronger, both physically and mentally. And then it's competition day. It's time to squeeze yourself into your sausage suit, also known as the singlet. Heart racing, nerve levels high and you start thinking you made the wrong decision. And then, you step into the pit, one lifter away from the platform. You are next. Your name is called and it is time to leave it all on the platform. Coach slaps your back or gives you a gentle squeeze (depending on the kind of support you need). That's it, the moment has come. You walk onto the platform and everything goes silent. It's just you and the judge calling the commands. All eyes on you, but the crowd is gone; your focus is completely on the wall behind you (or the ceiling). You un-rack the bar, the judge calls the command. One breath, and it's time to break your belt. The clock is ticking, you have 60 seconds to complete this lift. And that's it; you leave it all on the platform. Even in the moments of failure, you left it out there. You challenged yourself. And then it's over, you shake the judges hands, and you're addicted. There is nothing like stepping on the platform. It is the most nerve racking, and exciting experience. It's exhilarating. It's time to go back to the gym. One more cycle of training; time to get better. SBD, day after day. It's part of who you are and you wear it proud.
